TODAY is THROW BACK THURSDAY!!

Did you know that my business started out with the name
Threads of Love?

 Here's the story!!

I have shared the joy of stitching with my mother and during the last days as her care giver she asked me what I would like to do in the future...what was my dream....

So I shared with her that many years ago I had drawn a little picture of a wooden spool of thread with a heart hanging from it and scribbled the words "Threads of Love" next to it and tucked it away under my sewing machine. My dream was that one day I would have a business called "Threads of Love" and shared with her that over the years and for years to come she and others may be gone but the threads we stitch are left behind in love. IT is those threads that bring us comfort and leave us the memories of the love we shared with those that are now gone. Sharing my dream with my mother game me the courage to actually go out on a limb and start my business called "Threads of Love".

Several months after my I started my business ( and GOOGLE started to become a thing) I came across a non profit organization that was called Threads of Love which started as a group of women stitching and giving tiny burial gowns for patients who were born prematurely and were too sick to survive.

What a wonderful organization and how they have touched and comforted so many families! I decided that I wanted to respect their business name and not have my business conflict with the search of their business. If you would like to read more about their organization here it the link.

 https://threadsoflove.org/

SO from my little drawing of the spool of thread it seemed fitting to call my business Wooden Spool Designs!!

That's my Throw Back Thursday!! The photo about is my first ever trade show, my first business card, my first ever pattern,  my son Daniel, my daughter Amy,  husband Jeff, and my good friend April. Also pictured is one of the last photos of my mom and me!! She was 66 years old when she passed away and next month I will turn 66 years old. Bittersweet memories!! Love you MOM!!

Christmas Carol Mystery Quilt Sew Along Block #6

Hope you are enjoying the Farmhouse Threads 2020
 Mystery Quilt Sew A Long!!
It's Wednesday May 6th which means it's MY day to share!!

Myself and eleven other designers have been working hard to prepare our designs, write our patterns, share about ourselves, and get kits ready to send out!!
This has been such a fun theme this year
using Christmas Carols as our inspiration for our blocks!

Jingle Bells is the Christmas Carol assigned to me!!

This fun little "JINGLE" is a favorite during the holidays!!

Read about some Jingle Bell trivia when you print out the pattern!
Jingle Bells by the Carpenters
I wanted to share some of the photos during the process of making my block.I like to use freezer paper to trace my applique shapes, press it onto wool, and cut them out. I like to use Clover applique pins for hold my wool in place while I stitch. If you prefer fusible make sure to reverse the pattern.

Here is where I sit and stitch....
I love to pop in my ear buds and watch movies on my iPad while I stitch!!
Here is a close up of the tiny gold bells I stitched using just a single strand of quilting thread and going around the bells several times to make a satin stitch look.

S is for SEW!!!
(S is for social distancing)

During the past couple of week I have been thinking of all stitching friends and wondering what you are all doing with your time since we been practicing social distancing.....so I started creating some little embroidery blocks that I want to share for FREE with you all!!

Is a crazy time and we all need one another to keep us going, to find the way through. Our schedules and habits have been changed and even with all the sewing projects we have crammed into our closets it is sometimes overwhelming to figure out what to start with!!

Well here you go!!
A NEW project to start!!

I am wishing you all safe days ahead and that you can find joy and comfort in your needle and thread!!

Happy Stitching!!

Monday, March 23, 2020

Well I have not done a very good job at keeping up with my blog since I said I was going to do better starting in January!! It's now almost the end of March!!

I'm sure we can all agree that it's been a crazy year so far!!! SO much change and unknown roads we are going down!! We are all good here and just trying to do our best to do our part to help slow the spread of the Corona Virus.

Everything that I (and you probably) had on my schedule has been postponed to who knows when or cancelled. Just taking one day at a time right  now and taking this time to get some everyday stitching in!!

I was recently asked to share a free pattern on the Wool Applique Facebook page and someone asked if I would share it here!! OF COURSE!! What a great way to blog again!! I hope you enjoy the pattern and find some joy in your day stitching it!!

I wish all of you well and safe....Happy Stitching!!

Welcome 2020

Happy New Year to you all!!

I post most things on my Facebook and Instagram but I know that some of you don't use those so I am going to try and keep up better for those who use Blogger!!!

It's hard to believe it's a new year
 and
 that it's TWENTY TWENTY!!!

You may remember that we moved to Idaho from Oregon one year ago this coming week!!
We all experience how fast time flies so of course I can't believe it's been a year!!

We love it here in Idaho. The weather here is wonderful and we like the flat terrain for walking!!
Because of the flat terrain the sunsets last longer which seems to make the days feel longer....more time for sewing!!??  Well, I guess I have to admit any time is a good time for sewing even after dark!!

I hope you all had a good year last year and are ready for the new one because it is HERE and it's already moving right along!!

What's New with Wooden Spool Designs....

I am now a fabric designer with Henry Glass & Co., Inc.

My first line is called "My Red Wagon"

It will be released this month and be in the stores in August 2020.

It's based off of my pattern Wooly Red Wagon and I hope you love it!!

You can see the collection here

There are 17 prints, 1 border stripe, and 2 panels

It has been a new and exciting experience for me to work with Henry Glass designing this fabric and I hope for more to come!!

Henry Glass will have two projects to download with this fabric and I will have additional projects coming as it gets closer to it being available in stores!!

Please tell you local quilt shops about it!!
Let me know what you are going to create with this fabric!!

Next my book "Bowl Me Over" is out and if you haven't gotten it i encourage you to do it!!
The projects in this book are so fun, fast, and easy to make!! You wouldn't even believe how many of them I have made since July...There are 30 projects in the book and I have made them all at least 4 times plus at least 60 others along the way!!

Right now I am having a special on my website for this FREE pattern,  #1801 P.S. I Love You
with the purchase of the book "Bowl Me Over"
Add them both to your cart and the pattern will be deducted at checkout!!

You can use the techniques in the book to change things up
